Youth Speaks Competition 2007
It was smiles all round for the Wychwood girls entering the annual first round of the Rotary Club Youth Speaks Competition on Monday 22nd January 2007 at Leckford Place school. Two teams of girls entered the competition facing stiff opposition from Rye St Antony, Matthew Arnold School, The Cherwell School and Leckford Place School. Eight teams competed in total and the judges found it very difficult to place the first four teams, as the scores had been so close. In the final analysis, and to the girls' absolute delight, Wychwood School were winners and runners up! Runner up Lola Hirst spoke on ‘Has the celebrity culture gone too far?’ supported by Laura Bedwell and Alexandra Sweeney. Winner, Rebecca Goldie, spoke on ‘Cheese: it’s a patriotic matter!’ and she was supported by Alice Turner and Joanna Arvanitis. The girls received very generous book tokens for their success.
