PHOTOGRAPHY (AQA)

Photography is a practical course which provides pupils with the opportunity to demonstrate their understanding of the subject in a wide variety of contexts.

Using school facilities, the pupil will be able to enjoy the whole process of photography from initial shooting through to the final development in the dark room and on the computer using photoshop.  The first stages are concerned with learning how to operate a camera, control exposure and understand lighting techniques.  Following this the pupil will develop an ability to translate ideas into photographic images by appropriate choices of camera controls, subject matter, view points and media (including digital media).

Photography has the potential to enable pupils to make a personal response to their own individual experiences, environment and culture.  On a wider theme the subject will enhance their understanding and provide a practical experience of the role, purpose and function of photography in society.

GCSE Photography can provide a foundation for 'AS' Level study in the subject, a valuable skill useful in other visual arts and/or an exciting interest that can be carried on in later life.

Girls will need their own SLR camera including a tripod and a set of black and white filters and £45 will be added to the school bill at the end of each term to cover the cost of film, paper, chemicals, etc.
