MUSIC (EDEXCEL)
The music GCSE exam has 3 parts:
¨ Performing (30%),
¨ Composing (30%)
¨ Listening and Appraising (40%).
Performance involves both solo performance and performance as part of an ensemble (duet or trio). Composition is studied as part of the listening course and during the course two of your own compositions need to be performed and recorded, the tape being sent to the moderator.
The written exam is based on 4 areas of study each of which has 4 subsections and explores a wide range of music: Western Classical Music including 20th century experimental styles, Popular Song including Brit Pop and Songs from Shows, and World Music including African drumming and India ragas.
This is a course which will expand your knowledge of music so expect to be trying all sorts of styles and listening to an interesting variety of music.
