CHEMISTRY  (AQA)

The new 2006 syllabus for GCSE Chemistry aims to provide relevant and interesting work for both the specialist wishing to continue with sciences for 'A' level and for those wishing to be well informed about the chemicals around them.

The course contains material which leads to a large amount of related practical work in the lab, including experiments that illustrate the theory wherever possible and the planning and carrying out of investigations, which is assessed in school.

The topics covered aim to emphasise both the relevance of chemistry to ordinary life by considering chemicals of industrial importance such as plastics, synthetic fibres and fertilisers and their impact on the environment as well as traditional reactions.

The examination consists of three modules, one to be taken each year starting this summer, and the investigations.
