INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATIONS TECHNOLOGY (OCR)

In today’s world, where ICT is constantly changing, individuals will increasingly need technological and information literacy skills that include the ability to gather, process and manipulate data. These skills are now as essential as the traditional skills of numeracy and literacy. The impact of ICT on society is enormous and as the percentage of businesses and households connected to communication networks such as the Internet grows, so does the need for individuals who can master and manipulate these new technologies.

AS and A Level GCE ICT encourages pupils to become discerning users of ICT. It allows them to develop a broad range of ICT skills, knowledge and understanding.

The AS is made up of two mandatory components. An examined unit (60%) and a series of externally assessed tasks (40%). These form 50% of the four-unit A level GCE.

The units at A2 are similarly composed – examined (60%) and an internally assessed project (40%). The coursework at both AS and A level is significantly different to that at GCSE and puts an emphasis on providing practical solutions to real-life problems.
