Wychwood School | Further Mathematics A Level

FURTHER MATHEMATICS (Edexcel)

These courses may be run if there is sufficient demand. They are taken in addition to A Level Mathematics, not as a separate subject. There is some flexibility in the choice of modules to make up the AS and A Level, so the information below is illustrative of current arrangements.

The AS course consists of three modules, normally Further Pure Mathematics 1, Decision Mathematics 1 and Decision Mathematics 2. Further Pure Mathematics extends the range of topics studied in algebra and coordinate geometry from GCSE. Other topics introduce new work on sequences of numbers and complex numbers and matrices. The Decision Mathematics modules look at a range of different problems encountered in business and the methods used to solve them.

The A Level course covers a further three modules. One module is chosen from Further Pure 2 or Further Pure 3, which extend the work done in the AS course. The other modules will be chosen in consultation with students, in the light of their interests and strengths.
